Simplex
Basket Strainers
Simplex pipeline strainers remove damage causing particulate matter
from the process media, protecting system components such as flow
meters, pumps, and spray nozzles. The particulate matter is captured
in the strainer basket. The line is then temporarily shut down and
the basket removed for cleaning or replacement.
Model 72 Simplex
Strainer, 3/8" to 8"
Hayward’s Model 72 has been the industry standard simplex basket
strainer for over 70 years. A few of the reasons for its popularity
are, first, the unusually large basket capacity. Second, the free
straining area is a least 6 times the cross-sectional pipe area. Third,
no tools are needed to open the cover. Fourth, the quick opening,
swinging yoke can be disassembled and the basket removed in seconds.
Fifth, each strainer also comes standard with a threaded drain which
can be used as a backwash connection if desired.
Model 72 Straight
Flow Simplex Strainer, 10" to 18"
This special Hayward design for large size simplex strainers yields
a straight line flow pattern and results in very little pressure loss.
At the same time it has a compact size and less weight than other
strainers of these sizes. By using a pleated (convoluted) basket design
the straining area is increased while the basket size is reduced.
Model 30R
Simplex Strainer-1-1/2" to 8"
The Model 30R is a cost effective choice for moderate pressure applications.
These include water service in swimming pools, cooling towers and
large air conditioning installations. The clamp type cover is easily
removed without tools making basket cleaning or change outs quick
and easy. All sizes include, as standard, a drain plug and feature
a carefully machined basket seat to prevent any material by-pass.
Model 72L Tefzel®
Plastic-Lined Simplex Strainer, 1" to 6"
A continuous lining (NOT a coating) of fluoropolymer resin makes this
strainer a low cost alternative to exotic alloy strainers in a wide
variety of lined piping applications. The basic design of the Model
72L is that of Hayward’s popular Model 72, tested and time-proven
with more than a million units installed over the past 70 years.
Model 72SJ Steam
Jacketed Simplex Strainer, 1" to 6"
Steam jacketed strainers are used for applications where materials
must be kept hot in order to remain fluid. Applications examples are
chocolate, asphalt, resins and polymers. The strainer body temperature
is maintained by circulating steam or a heat transfer fluid through
the strainer jacket. The strainer body is provided with either a carbon
steel or a stainless steel jacket welded to the cast body. The jacket
will handle steam pressures up to 100 psi.
Model 510 Multibasket
Simplex Strainer - 8" to 36"
There are 4 baskets per strainer. This makes possible a compact unit
with a very low profile, ideal for tight installations where space
is a problem. One person can clean the baskets easily and rapidly.
The baskets feature a large open area ratio and have a high dirt holding
capacity. Therefore, a longer cycle between clean out is permissible.
The unique Hayward angled basket tops allow direct fluid entry and
result in a low pressure drop.
All Plastic Simplex
Strainers - 1/2" to 8"
When pipeline system components require protection from dirt and debris
and the line can be shut down for basket cleaning, a HAYWARD®
All Plastic Simplex Basket Strainer is the ideal choice. Unwanted
particles are removed as the process media passes through a perforated
strainer basket contained inside the strainer body. The basket traps
the unwanted material while allowing the process media to flow freely.
Duplex
Basket Strainers
Duplex strainers remove damage causing particulate matter from the
process media, and never have to be shut down for cleaning…the
line can run continuously. When one strainer basket becomes full,
flow is switched to the other by simply turning the operating handle
of the strainer. The first basket is removed, cleaned and is ready
for use again. These larger size duplex strainers are available in
5", 6" and 8" sizes. For smaller duplex strainers,
up to 4" in size Hayward offers the Model 53BTX Duplex Strainer.
Model 53BTX Duplex
Basket Strainer, 3/4" to 4"
The Model 53BTX Duplex Strainer will give years of trouble-free service,
protecting expensive pipeline system components from damage by unwanted
particles. Because the system flow never has to be shut down for basket
cleaning, the Model 53BTX strainer is perfect for lines that must
run continuously or for batch systems that can’t be stopped.
A quick, easy turn of the handle operates the diverter cartridge that
switches the system flow from one basket chamber to the other, allowing
the out of service basket to be cleaned or changed.
Model 50 Duplex
Basket Strainer, 5" to 8"
These strainers use the most simple, economical and trouble free design
available, a tapered plug. This type of strainer is actually a high
quality, pressure rated plug valve with integral straining baskets.
A quick quarter turn of the handle diverts the flow from one basket
strainer chamber to another and the flow is never shut off. No tools
are needed for the operation and the plug is automatically positioned
each time in exactly the right spot by integral stops.
Model 50 Duplex
Basket Strainer, 10" to 18"
These large size strainers use synchronized butterfly valves to switch
the flow from one basket strainer chamber to another and never cause
the flow to be shut off. Operation is quick and easy with the large,
easy to use hand wheel…a few turns and the flow is diverted
and the out of service basket is ready for cleaning.
Model 50SJ Steam
Jacketed Duplex Basket Strainer, 1" to 8"
Steam jacketed strainers are used for applications where materials
must be kept hot in order to remain fluid. Applications examples are
chocolate, asphalt, resins and polymers. The strainer body temperature
is maintained by circulating steam or a heat transfer fluid through
the strainer jacket.
All Plastic Duplex
Basket Strainers - 1/2" to 4"
When pipeline system components require protection from dirt and debris
and the line can be shut down for basket cleaning, a HAYWARD®
All Plastic Duplex Basket Strainer is the ideal choice. Unwanted particles
are removed as the process media passes through a perforated strainer
basket contained inside the strainer body. The basket traps the unwanted
material while allowing the process media to flow freely. And the
flow never needs to be shut down for basket cleaning or changing.
Y
Strainers
Model 80
and 85 Y Strainers - 1/4" to 20"
Y-Strainers are typically used in applications where the amount of
solids to be removed is small, and where frequent clean-out is not
required. They are most often installed in gaseous services such as
steam, air, nitrogen, natural gas, etc. The compact, cylindrical shape
of the Y-strainer is very strong and can readily accommodate the high
pressures that are common in this type of service. Pressures up to
6000 psi are not unusual. When steam is being handled, high temperature
can be an additional complicating factor. A steam pressure of 1500
psi will often be found at temperatures of 1000°F. The strength
of the standard Hayward Y-strainer design can easily accommodate these
extreme parameters although the material of construction will probably
be an alloy steel.
Custom
- Fabricated Strainers
Fabricated strainers, because they are manufactured one at a time,
can be made to fit the exact requirements of the application. There
are no trade offs. You get the perfect strainer for you application...you
never have to pay for more strainer than you need...or settle for
a strainer that won't quite do the job you want it to.
Often it is not necessary to go to the time and trouble to design
a strainer from scratch. Hayward has several simplex, duplex and tee
type designs of fabricated strainers. Very often one of these basic
designs can be used "as is" or slightly modified with a
different cover or piping connections to fit the application. Your
application might not be as unique as you think. Over the years we
have seen thousands of different applications and can often offer
a solution to your straining application problem right from our database
of special strainer designs.Introduction to Fabricated Pipeline Strainers
While Hayward offers the world's most complete line of cast strainers,
sometimes, because of space limitation, the need for a special alloy,
unique piping connections, cover opening system or size, a custom
strainer is required. In these cases, a cast strainer will just not
work because often it is not easy or even possible to modify the cast
metal strainer. Hayward solves these application problems by fabricating
a pipeline strainer to meet the requirements of any straining application.
Model 90 Simplex
Strainer - 2" to 48"
The Model 90 Simplex Strainer is perfect for applications with unique
requirements or standard ones where a cast strainer would not fit
or be too heavy. If a standard simplex strainer won't work in your
application Hayward can help you design a Model 90 Simplex Strainer
to your exact specifications....no compromises.
Models 950 and 900
Duplex Strainers - 1" to 48"
Both the Model 950 and 900 feature two basket strainer housings with
a valve flow diverter assembly connecting them. When the basket in
one housing is ready for cleaning the flow is switched to the other
housing using the valve assembly. The first basket is then removed,
cleaned and is ready to be put back into service. The Model 950 has
an offset inlet and outlet, with the inlet located above the outlet.
The Model 900 has the inlet and outlet in the same plane.
Model 91 Tee Type
Strainer - 2" to 48"
The Model 91 Tee Strainer offers several advantages over other strainer
designs. The strainer is very compact, important in applications where
space is restricted. Unlike most other strainers the Model 91 can
be used in both vertical or horizontal installations and the strainer
screen can be cleaned without draining the strainer housing.
Model 92 Temporary
Strainer - 2" to 24"
Model 92 Temporary Strainers are very low cost, high quality pipeline
strainers designed for new system start up service for systems that
will not have a permanent strainer installed. Temporary strainers
remove damage causing particles present in just put in service"
piping systems. They are very easy to install and just as easy to
remove when the system is put into service. They are also used in
systems where solid contaminants are not thought prevalent but where
protection of piping system components is desirable none the less.
Strainer
Baskets & Elements
The basket or element is the heart of a Hayward Strainer. It is designed
to be both effective and durable so that it will function reliably
for years. After a particular type of strainer housing has been selected,
equal concern should be given to the basket or screen design and the
perforation or mesh size – for this alone determines the ultimate
functionality and performance of the strainer.
Cylindrical Baskets
The strainer cover presses down on the bow-shaped handle and assures
a tight seal. This is the standard, basic strainer basket, available
in stainless steel or Monel, with a wide range of perforations and
mesh linings to handle any straining problem.
Heavy Duty Cylindrical
Baskets
Heavy duty strainer baskets are reinforced in critical areas to stand
up to the most demanding applications.
Pleated Baskets
Pleated, open type baskets have a very low pressure loss. The convoluted
or pleated structure of the screen gives much greater straining area
than other designs. Available in plain perforated metal or with a
fine mesh lining.
Slanted Top Type
Baskets
The slanted, open top design allows fluid to enter easily and cuts
down pressure drop loss. By using four of these baskets in each chamber
of the strainer, individual basket size is reduced. This means only
one person is needed to clean even the largest size baskets.
Automatic Strainer
Screen Elements Magnetic Inserts
Hayward Model 596 and 2596 Automatic, Self-Cleaning Strainers utilize
a screen element rather than a basket to trap unwanted particles.
These screen elements are designed so that during backwashing the
debris is easily dislodged and carried away through the backwash arm
and out of the strainer. Several types are available to meet all application
requirements.
Magnetic Inserts
Hayward strainer baskets can be supplied with magnetic inserts which
are valuable when microscopic iron or steel particles are present.
These might pass though a fine mesh lining but the magnetic insert
will catch them. Our powerful magnets are encased in stainless steel
to prevent corrosion.
